SIC codes, NAICS codes, and Fiscal Year End
Our mission is to put the world's company and demographic data at your fingertips, and we're always looking at both improving our existing dataset and giving you useful new attributes.
To that end, I'd like to announce the addition of three new company data attributes: SIC codes, NAICS codes, and Fiscal Year End.
SIC & NAICS industry classification codes
Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) & North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes are today's most widely used company categorization standards. NAICS is slowly superseding SIC, but both are still commonly used for sales segmentation, sales assignment, lead scoring, and reporting.
We've traditionally returned our own category classifications based on the somewhat newer Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS), but we realize a lot of companies have existing systems & processes in place, so we've decided to support them all. We're starting with a focus on US companies, but will be expanding international coverage for all three classification types.
To start, we will be supporting the 2-digit SIC and NAICS industry codes. We plan to expand coverage, as well as adding sector (2 digit) and sub sector (3-4 digit) codes over the coming months.
Fiscal year end
Companies can choose any month of the year as the end of their fiscal year for accounting purposes. Clearbit will now return the month they choose in the company response as a fiscalYearEnd
data attribute. Again, our focus is on companies based in the US initially but we aim to expand that soon.
Knowing when a company's fiscal year ends is an extremely useful data attribute when it comes to understanding budgets and deadlines. For example, with this attribute you could easily put together a report for your sales team detailing each rep’s accounts with an upcoming fiscal year end.
Improved data
Data quality and coverage is our #1 priority at Clearbit, and we've been making huge inroads. With this new release we've improved the accuracy of employee counts & locations. We've also improved the coverage of headquarter phone numbers by 20% and annual revenue by 10%.
Using these new attributes
If you’re an existing user of our Salesforce integration then you’ll see all these new fields populate upon your next automated monthly refresh.
Alternatively, if you're an API user, these new fields will start coming through with all new requests automatically. If you don't see them, just check your API version here to make sure you're on the latest version!
